Catherine Leonard, who announced last February that she was leaving Camerata Pacifica, will be paid tribute in the ensemble’s season finale next month. The occasion will also serve as an introduction to mezzo-soprano Kate Allen, who will be making her debut with the group next month.

According to a press release sent out today from the Santa Barbara-based group:

With the final performances of Camerata Pacifica’s 23rd season, we say farewell to violinist Catherine Leonard, and we say hello to mezzo-soprano Kate Allen as we introduce her to Camerata audiences. Both Catherine [and] Kate are Irish, and will be featured in the American premiere of Dreamgarden by the Belfast-born composer Ian Wilson.

The remainder of the program will consist of the Oboe Quintet by Arnold Bax and  a pair of works by Antonín Dvořák: the Gypsy Songs, op. 55 and Piano Quintet in A, op. 81.

Joining Leonard and Allen will be flutist and Camerata Pacifica artistic director Adrian Spence, oboist Nicholas Daniel, violinist Ara Gregorian, violist Richard Yongjae O’Neill, cellist Ani Aznavoorian, and pianist Warren Jones.

Leonard cited her desire to focus on her career as a performer and teacher in Europe and her native Ireland as the reason she chose to leave Camerata Pacifica.

Leonard will also be among the musicians participating at this month’s Camerata Pacifica concerts.
